31 Living Room Ideas from the Homes of Top Designers

simple living room interior design

Modern living room design is a trend nowadays, especially for individuals whose primary focus is their house’s functionality. Apart from that, the fresh appearance of contemporary interiors make homeowners like this sort of clutter-free and worry-free idea. What more if you make use of little accessories and minimalist furniture? Your living room furniture ideas will surely appear calming and light.

Streamline Your Color Palette

Ditch your coffee table's base and put that slab straight on the ground. Work with your home's existing layout by brightening up the space with a white sectional and marble coffee table as BHDM did in this winter getaway. The fireplace won't steal the show if you stick to a black-and-white palette for the room. Framed wall decor ideas are a brilliant way to add personality, via color, pattern, and memories to your living room setting. Choose photo frames that complement the surrounding soft furnishings – especially if you're working on a white wall – and you'll really make this backdrop pop.

Consider personal style when designing a living room

Paneling is also very effective on ceilings,’ says Simon Temprell, interior design manager at Neptune. Nancy and Bruce Newberg had been eyeing the property near their family’s Los Angeles home for several years before the for sale sign finally went up. Homes by such iconic local architects as Wallace Neff and George Washington Smith. You can easily add a vintage touch to your living room design by using a wood trunk as a coffee table. The beige patterned rug in this living room ties the room together nicely. Make your living room feel like spring by using a green and blue color scheme and decorating with fresh flowers.

Pick multifunctional furniture

These ideas include classic couches, colorful decor, stunning coffee tables and more. Use the filters below to find ideas that work perfectly for you, and then begin designing your dream living room with personalized home decor pieces. For many people, the living room is the room in the house where they spend the most time.

Neutral Minimalist Living Room

simple living room interior design

Do you see an area with modern furniture, white walls, and no bright colors? This is usually the mental picture that most people have when they consider minimalism. Nevertheless, the reality is, while this is undoubtedly what several minimalist living rooms are like, it is not an entirely correct image. When designing your living room, selecting decor and furniture that go well together can be a bit overwhelming. Also, several of us often overfill our spaces because of the many gorgeous styles available!

Incorporate plenty of texture to ensure it doesn’t look dull or uninspiring. Black and white is a style statement if you know how to work with it, so consider limiting the patterns or furnishings you use. Textured elements spark interest and add a distinct quality to your living space. Think of an antique coffee table paired with a one-of-a-kind lampshade, complementing a sofa adorned with soft throws and cushions, all sitting well within a neutral colour scheme. It is better to have a few meticulously crafted pieces that resonate with your taste than a bunch of things that clutter your space unnecessarily. This approach is particularly true for significant investments like sofas and coffee tables.

Neutral Simple Living Room Ideas with Oversized Artwork

Choosing high-quality pieces will not only be a long-term investment but also transform the overall look and feel of your space. In this guide, we’ve curated 33 simple living room interior design ideas catering to every taste and budget. These ideas allow you to express your authentic vibe and preference in timeless, vibrant, and quirky ways. Inspiration of a contemporary living room with beige armchairs, concrete top coffee table, beige carpet, leather pouf, colorful painting, a white console, large window, and wood floor. In this very small living room, the functionality increased by using an l-shape sofa.

Add brightness to your living room design by using a colorful and uniquely shaped coffee table. James Design Group utilizes classic picture molding as frames for the mirrors, opening up the living room and bouncing light around. Mixing and matching styles is a lasting trend, particularly when it comes to patterns. By blending contrasting yet complementary patterns, you can incorporate visual interest and steer clear of an overly coordinated appearance. When mixing patterns, prioritise the colour scheme over the specific print.

Start with Texture

Accentuate the comfy little nook with a wall paneling detail—such as this white shiplap—and draw the eyes up with a decorative wall sconce. Sometimes, all you need to refresh your living room is to switch up its layout. Consider dividing the room into multiple zones, like interior designers Jeremiah Brent and Nate Berkus did in their L.A. The company puts the needs and wants of their clients at the forefront, all while combining it with beautiful aesthetics and operational functionality. Some highlights include designing for Hollywood producers passionate about supporting female talent, female founders, stay-at-home moms, working moms and all-round amazing women.

Whether it's a beautiful blue or a gracious green, let the color of your sofa guide the rest of your decorative decisions. Vibrant designs are especially great options for rooms painted in neutral colors. By opting for coffee table décor in the same bright white shade as the walls, every piece in this room feels balanced and intentional. Incorporate contrast through furniture like accent chairs, curtains, and your coffee table for a burst of texture that makes even the simplest designs feel welcoming.

Ami McKay founded PURE Design in 2000, designing welcoming spaces that bring her clients joy and harmony. Laëtitia Wajnapel is the creator of Cinquième Gauche, a full-service interior design studio based in LA. Wajnapel who was born and raised in Paris, started her career as a journalist before branching out into styling. Her design practice is led by a love of storytelling, making each project truly unique to the client. In this minimalist living room, the window treatments make a stunning design statement thanks to their bold pattern and floor-to-ceiling size. The curtain panels’ height visually extends the ceiling and makes the room look more spacious and the solid colored sofa tones down the busy curtain print for a beautifully balanced space.

Multiple Independent Variables Research Methods in Psychology 2nd Canadian Edition

mixed factorial design

The first independent variable is light switch #1, and it has two levels, up or down. The second independent variable is light switch #2, and it also has two levels, up or down. When there are two independent variables, each with two levels, there are four total conditions that can be tested. Another common approach to including multiple dependent variables is to operationalize and measure the same construct, or closely related ones, in different ways. Imagine, for example, that a researcher conducts an experiment on the effect of daily exercise on stress.

A Note about Factors with 4 levels - \(2^2\)

One independent variable was disgust, which the researchers manipulated by testing participants in a clean room or a messy room. The other was private body consciousness, a participant variable which the researchers simply measured. Another example is a study by Halle Brown and colleagues in which participants were exposed to several words that they were later asked to recall (Brown, Kosslyn, Delamater, Fama, & Barsky, 1999)[1]. Some were negative health-related words (e.g., tumor, coronary), and others were not health related (e.g., election, geometry). The nonmanipulated independent variable was whether participants were high or low in hypochondriasis (excessive concern with ordinary bodily symptoms). The result of this study was that the participants high in hypochondriasis were better than those low in hypochondriasis at recalling the health-related words, but they were no better at recalling the non-health-related words.

Instead, the experimenter changes the levels of the independent variable and then observes possible changes in the measures. This kind of design has a special property that makes it a factorial design. That is, the levels of each independent variable are each manipulated across the levels of the other indpendent variable. In other words, we manipulate whether switch #1 is up or down when switch #2 is up, and when switch numebr #2 is down.

2. Mixed Factorial ANOVA as a mixed-effect model…

G., to collect interview data and survey data of one inquiry simultaneously; in that case, the research activities would be concurrent. It is also possible to conduct the interviews after the survey data have been collected (or vice versa); in that case, research activities are performed sequentially. Similarly, a study with the purpose of expansion can be designed in which data on an effect and the intervention process are collected simultaneously, or they can be collected sequentially. We leave it to the reader to decide if he or she desires to conduct a qualitatively driven study, a quantitatively driven study, or an equal-status/“interactive” study. According to the philosophies of pragmatism (Johnson and Onwuegbuzie 2004) and dialectical pluralism (Johnson 2017), interactive mixed methods research is very much a possibility. By successfully conducting an equal-status study, the pragmatist researcher shows that paradigms can be mixed or combined, and that the incompatibility thesis does not always apply to research practice.

Time of day (day vs. night) is represented by different locations on the x-axis, and cell phone use (no vs. yes) is represented by different-colored bars. It would also be possible to represent cell phone use on the x-axis and time of day as different-colored bars. The choice comes down to which way seems to communicate the results most clearly. The bottom panel of Figure 5.3 shows the results of a 4 x 2 design in which one of the variables is quantitative.

How to Construct a Mixed Methods Research Design

(e) Confirm and discover – this entails using qualitative data to generate hypotheses and using quantitative research to test them within a single project. The ezANOVA() function provides us with more detail, for instanceautomatically providing Mauchly’s Test for Sphericity and both theGreenhouse-Geisser and Hyunh-Feldt corrections in the event that thesphericity assumption is violated. Most importantly, however, theoutputs of these two functions agree when we look at the f-statisticsfor all main-effects and interactions when sphericity is assumed.

But by ruling out some of the most plausible third variables, the researchers made a stronger case for SES as the cause of the greater generosity. The difference between red and green bars is small for level 1 of IV1, but large for level 2. The differences between the differences are different, so there is an interaction. For example, both the red and green bars for IV1 level 1 are higher than IV1 Level 2.

This variable, psychotherapy length, is represented along the x-axis, and the other variable (psychotherapy type) is represented by differently formatted lines. This is a line graph rather than a bar graph because the variable on the x-axis is quantitative with a small number of distinct levels. The research designs we have considered so far have been simple—focusing on a question about one variable or about a statistical relationship between two variables.

mixed factorial design

2 - \(3^k\) Designs in \(3^p\) Blocks cont'd.

mixed factorial design

If they were low in private body consciousness, then whether the room was clean or messy did not matter. There is an interaction effect (or just “interaction”) when the effect of one independent variable depends on the level of another. A 2×2 factorial design is a type of experimental design that allows researchers to understand the effects of two independent variables (each with two levels) on a single dependent variable. An approach to including multiple independent variables in an experiment where each level of one independent variable is combined with each level of the others to produce all possible combinations. Often a researcher wants to know how an independent variable affects several distinct dependent variables. As another example, researcher Susan Knasko was interested in how different odors affect people’s behavior [Kna92].

But it could also be that the music was ineffective at putting participants in happy or sad moods. A manipulation check, in this case, a measure of participants’ moods, would help resolve this uncertainty. If it showed that you had successfully manipulated participants’ moods, then it would appear that there is indeed no effect of mood on memory for childhood events. But if it showed that you did not successfully manipulate participants’ moods, then it would appear that you need a more effective manipulation to answer your research question. Again, because neither independent variable in this example was manipulated, it is a cross-sectional study rather than an experiment.

It’s when you become highly irritated and angry because you are very hungry…hangry. I will propose an experiment to measure conditions that are required to produce hangriness. The pretend experiment will measure hangriness (we ask people how hangry they are on a scale from 1-10, with 10 being most hangry, and 0 being not hangry at all). The first independent variable will be time since last meal (1 hour vs. 5 hours), and the second independent variable will be how tired someone is (not tired vs very tired). When the independent variable is a construct that can only be manipulated indirectly—such as emotions and other internal states—an additional measure of that independent variable is often included as a manipulation check.

In other words, the effect of wearing a shoe does not depend on wearing a hat. More formally, this means that the shoe and hat independent variables do not interact. It would mean that the effect of wearing a shoe on height would depend on wearing a hat. But in some other imaginary universe, it could mean, for example, that wearing a shoe adds 1 to your height when you do not wear a hat, but adds more than 1 inch (or less than 1 inch) when you do wear a hat. This thought experiment will be our entry point into discussing interactions. A take-home message before we begin is that some independent variables (like shoes and hats) do not interact; however, there are many other independent variables that do.

If you do this, then you simply have a single-factor design, and you are asking whether that single factor caused change in the measurement. For a 2x2 experiment, you do this twice, once for each independent variable. The number of possible purposes for mixing is very large and is increasing; hence, it is not possible to provide an exhaustive list. Greene et al.’s (1989) purposes, Bryman’s (2006) rationales, and our examples of a diversity of views were formulated as classifications on the basis of examination of many existing research studies. They indicate how the qualitative and quantitative research components of a study relate to each other. These purposes can be used post hoc to classify research or a priori in the design of a new study.

The dependent variable, stress, is a construct that can be operationalized in different ways. For this reason, the researcher might have participants complete the paper-and-pencil Perceived Stress Scale and also measure their levels of the stress hormone cortisol. If the researcher finds that the different measures are affected by exercise in the same way, then he or she can be confident in the conclusion that exercise affects the more general construct of stress. Even if you are primarily interested in the relationship between an independent variable and one primary dependent variable, there are usually several more questions that you can answer easily by including multiple dependent variables. Most complex correlational research, however, does not fit neatly into a factorial design. Instead, it involves measuring several variables, often both categorical and quantitative, and then assessing the statistical relationships among them.

These included health, knowledge of heart attack risk factors, and beliefs about their own risk of having a heart attack. They found that more optimistic participants were healthier (e.g., they exercised more and had lower blood pressure), knew about heart attack risk factors, and correctly believed their own risk to be lower than that of their peers. When multiple dependent variables are different measures of the same construct - especially if they are measured on the same scale - researchers have the option of combining them into a single measure of that construct. Recall that Schnall and her colleagues were interested in the harshness of people’s moral judgments. To measure this construct, they presented their participants with seven different scenarios describing morally questionable behaviors and asked them to rate the moral acceptability of each one. Although the researchers could have treated each of the seven ratings as a separate dependent variable, these researchers combined them into a single dependent variable by computing their mean.

Menu Shaw's Crab House Seafood Restaurant

shaws crab house

A tower of seafood with oysters, shrimp, crab, and lobster. Normally we skip things like this at restaurants, but Shaw’s is the kind of place where you order the seafood tower. We appreciate Shaw’s for the right occasion, which can actually be any occasion as long as you’re willing to spend a bunch of money on seafood like oysters, crab legs, and sushi. It’s great for date night, dinner with family, or an all-out gathering of friends.

Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak, and Stone Crab

Post up at the bar for oysters and other fresh fish. Shaw’s is basically the seafood version of a steakhouse. It has big red leather booths, white tablecloths, and a wait staff dressed in black pants, white dress shirts, and black vests.

Raw Bar

And while it’s nice, there are also often random tourists wandering in off the streets in their finest Hawaiian or I ❤️ Chicago shirts. Being locals, this means Shaw’s falls off our radar at times. Shaw’s Crab House is a Chicago institution that boasts a selection of seafood with a longstanding commitment to offering top quality ingredients since 1984. Working directly with fishermen and farmers, Shaw’s sources daily catches flown in from coast-to-coast. With an ethos of spotlighting ingredients first, Shaw’s menu features simple preparations executed to perfection to allow quality to take center stage.

The lively Oyster Bar features a convivial atmosphere with spacious booths lining the room and an abundance of high-top tables perfect for a drink and appetizer after work or a full dining experience with friends. With a wrap around wooden bar and bartenders that remember your name, Shaw’s Oyster Bar is the Chicago destination for a round of oysters on the half shell and a martini. Shaw’s sources daily catches flown in from coast-to-coast by working directly with fishermen and farmers. Shaw’s has an unbelievable buffet for around $59. There’s French toast, eggs benedict, Do-Rite donuts, oysters, sushi, crab claws, crab cakes, shrimp, and about 25 other things.

The flexibility of the Normandie Rooms makes this space a perfect fit for any event from large corporate receptions or award luncheons to rehearsal dinners or post wedding brunches. As a whole the space can accommodate up to 110 guests but they can also be separated into smaller spaces which accommodate up to 22 or up to 50 guests. “The round sesame bread, which is our signature, it’s called the Bashka. We put bell peppers, mushrooms, corn, olives and it’s on the grill, with your preference of American cheese or pepperjack cheese,” he said.

Oysters on the Half Shell

One nice touch is fresh olive and pickle bar, featuring crunchy carrots, cauliflower and other pickled veg. Cooks will either slice the shawarma old school, with a thin, long serrated knife, or if it’s busy, they’ll pull out the electric shavers, which do the trick nicely. The vertical spits are clearly the stars at Hello Shawarma, wedged between a Hello Hookah and a Hello Thai in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it mall along south Harlem Avenue.

It’s the specialty here, and we usually have a plate of them on the table when going big in the dining room. Awesome shellfish in a basement dive bar complete with year-round Christmas lights. Crispy wonton shells with lobster, avocado, and an Asian vegetable salad. Seated or buffet stations available for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner. Celebrate your next company holiday party or wedding reception in our East Coast style Oyster Bar. Located in the Oyster Bar, the Oyster Deck is surrounded by a half-wall making it entirely your space but still allowing you to be a part of the atmosphere of the Oyster Bar.

Shaw’s isn’t innovative or exciting with a constantly changing menu, but it’s comforting. You know exactly what you’ll get, and when you’re here that’s exactly what you want. The design – cast in a 1940’s style setting – has two dining rooms offering guests a dual experience between the more casual and lively Oyster Bar and the traditional white tablecloth Main Dining Room. Cold Storage is seafood bar attached to a steakhouse.

It’s perfect for celebrations or relaxed events for up to 30 guests. Tucked off to the side, the Red Shell Room is our second semi-private space in the Oyster Bar. With a combination cushy booths and a large round table, the Red Shell Room seats up to 25 guests and offers a great casual setting for brunch, lunch or dinner events. This completely private, versatile room located behind the Main Dining Room can accommodate a reception or seated gathering for up to 65 guests. So as we get older, it’s nice to hang onto a few things that manage to stay the same. Shaw’s Crab House is one of those places - a classic restaurant that continues to be the exact same great place in River North.

Guide to Cruise Ports in Portland Maine

portland me cruise terminal

A well-loved Portland landmark, Victoria Mansion is distinguished for its architecture and amazing original interiors. Known as the Morse-Libby House, it was built between 1858 and 1860 as a summer home (believe it or not!) for just two people, Ruggles Morese and his wife Olive. The home is considered one of the finest examples of Italian Villa style in America.

Downtown Portland: A Bustling Area to Explore

In George’s time, the 80 foot tower had been lit with 16 whale-oil lamps. You will find a museum and gift shop at the lighthouse location, too. This french fry and sandwich shop is a great option if you want to grab something quickly, and still get good food.

It has panoramic views of Portland, Casco Bay, Back Cove and Mt. Washington. Built in 1807, this National Historic Landmark has guided tours that focus on maritime history, the importance of the structure, and Portland history over two centuries. Tours are available from Memorial Day weekend through Columbus Day.

Portland – Maine

For something a little sweeter, try Portland’s unique specialty donuts at The Holy Donut. They are made with real Maine potatoes, local butter and buttermilk, and all-natural ingredients. Portland was immediately rebuilt, resulting in the relatively uniform Victorian-era architecture seen today. Temperatures are comfortable to slightly cool during the peak cruise months of September and October. The average high temperature is about 70 degrees Fahrenheit in September. The average high takes quite a dip to 59 degrees Fahrenheit in October.

If you’re looking for a free walking tour map, take a 3 min. walk along the waterfront to The Portland Encyclepedia, where they rent bikes, but also offer free walking tour maps. The port is busy, and not just with cruise ships, but with working fishing wharves and warehouses that have been converted into restaurants and shops. The Western Promenade of Portland  is a park on top of a bluff that gives spectacular river and mountain views. The West End is full of Victorian-era homes including the Victoria Mansion museum. Maine is 90% forested and is one of the world’s leading paper producers.

A wide variety of shore excursions are available from the Portland port, including lighthouse tours, city sightseeing tours, and excursions to nearby coastal towns. Many excursions combine a visit to Portland’s top city sights with a visit to the famed Portland Head Light, Maine’s oldest lighthouse. From the cruise terminals, you’re within walking distance to downtown Portland and all its popular neighborhoods, including the Old Port shopping district and the Arts District. There’s a tourist information center at the terminal and in summer, a free guiding service from Downtown District Guides. The quaint fishing village of Kennebunkport, its streets lined with handsome Victorian mansions,  is famed as the summer home of the Bush family.

With Euorpean-style menu items, their Belgian fries are cooked in duck fat and served in a paper cone, just like the owners experienced in Amsterdam. Don’t pass up one of their milk shakes that are made with locally produced ice cream. If you don’t want a sit-down experience, they also have a walk-up window location on Washington Ave, about a 15 min. walk from the pier.

For visitors who love the outdoors, there are plenty of options for exploring Maine’s natural beauty. Kayaking tours of Casco Bay offer a unique perspective on the coastline and allow guests to see wildlife like seals and seabirds up close. There are also hiking trails in nearby state parks like Bradbury Mountain State Park that offer stunning views of the surrounding countryside. Another must-try experience for seafood lovers is a lobster boat cruise. These cruises depart from the Maine State Pier and take visitors out onto Casco Bay to see how lobsters are caught in their natural habitat. Guests can even help haul up traps before enjoying a freshly cooked lobster lunch on board.

The port had once been a major shipbuilding center and one of the busiest fishing ports on the Atlantic. Unfortunately, this success also made the port a target for the British during the War of 1812. The coastline still has many of the forts that were built to protect the city. On March 16, 2018, was announced a plan to fund the USD 2 million ferry terminal's upgrade project. The Ocean Gateway terminal serves all ferries connecting Maine USA with Nova Scotia (NS Canada). The decision was made after the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency threatened to close the terminal's customs service as it didn't meet USA's federal standards.

The city’s Arts District is full of galleries and antique shops, while the Old Port area has everything from clothing boutiques to homewares. Portland also has a Metro bus system that operates within the Greater Portland area and has a service to Freeport. A highly enjoyable way to get around is on two wheels, with bike rentals available close to the port. Originally called Casco and then Falmouth by the British, the name was changed after the Revolutionary War to Portland. The city continued to grow as a commercial port and shipping center. When Maine became a state in 1820, Portland served as the state’s first capital until 1832, when it was switched to more centrally located Augusta.

For those who prefer their lobsters served whole with all the fixings, there are plenty of restaurants throughout Portland that serve traditional lobster dinners. One advantage of using these services is that they offer door-to-door transportation without having to worry about parking or navigation. However, it’s important to note that prices may vary depending on demand and distance traveled. If you prefer more flexibility and convenience when traveling around Portland, consider using taxi services or ride-sharing apps like Uber and Lyft. These services allow you to request a ride with just a few taps on your smartphone app.

Visitors can purchase tickets online or onboard using cash or credit card. There are several types of passes available depending on how long you plan to stay in Portland. With a permanent collection featuring pieces by Picasso, Delacroix, and Renoir, as well as local artist exhibits, The Portland Museum of Art is a must-see. The Old Port Historic District is the place to go for locally crafted goods and souvenirs. Look for the “Maine Made” label to ensure items are handcrafted in Maine. Portland is also home to a surprising number of award-winning breweries, including the Allagash Brewery, Brothers Brewing Company, and Foulmouthed Brewing.

No trip to Portland is complete without indulging in some fresh seafood. There are many places where you can find the best lobster in town such as Eventide Oyster Company or J’s Oyster Bar. For beer lovers, there are plenty of breweries near the terminal that offer tours and tastings. One popular option is Shipyard Brewing Company – they’ve been brewing craft beer in Portland for over 25 years and offer daily tours of their facility. For those looking for more traditional shopping options, there are plenty of clothing stores, gift shops, and art galleries throughout the Old Port.

With over 20 routes covering more than 30 miles of service area, the buses run frequently throughout the day from early morning until late at night. Cruise visitors may find that taking a general tour is a good option for seeing everything that Portland and the surrounding area have to offer. The Portland Maine cruise port is a place of lobsters and lighthouses for any visitors who want a true New England cruise experience. The terminals are located adjacent to Commercial Street, which runs alongside the waterfront and features restaurants, quaint shops and fishermen at work. A visitor information booth is located just outside the cruise terminal, where you can pick up city maps.

For those who want to experience local culture while exploring nature then visit Eastern Promenade Park. This scenic park offers breathtaking views of Casco Bay along with walking trails and picnic areas perfect for families. One of the highlights of the museum is its outdoor shipyard, where visitors can watch craftsmen build wooden boats using traditional techniques. There are also several historic ships docked at the museum that visitors can explore. Another must-visit attraction in Portland is the historic Portland Head Light.

For such a small city, Portland is home to an impressive array of restaurants, breweries, and bars. Lobster is the staple, and you can eat it any time of day, from lobster omelets for breakfast to lobster chowder and rolls for lunch and steamed lobster for dinner. The city is also Maine’s hotspot for arts, culture, and entertainment.

Cruising Duck Tags Carnival

cruise ducks tags

The game first began when a young girl named Abby hid ducks on the Carnival Breeze in the spring of 2018. People have also been hiding other plastic creatures since as early as 2015. This fun trend quickly spread throughout the cruise community and has become a fantastic way to build anticipation for your upcoming cruise adventure. There are often social events on board various cruise ships that center around these delightful little toys. They thought it would be a fun idea to bring 50 rubber ducks along on their 7-day cruise and hide them around the ship for others to find.

The DIY method involves a bit more work and a few ingredients. You'll also want some elastics or ribbons to tie your labels onto your duckies.

Cruise Ship Shops

They even use the hashtag #cruisingducks to make it easier for duck hunters to share their finds. The nice thing about these groups is to be able to chat about cruising ducks and ask questions to other people who are really into this. You can use colored rubber bands to attach the tags to the necks of the rubber ducks, twine or some curling ribbon. Some ducks were tagged in memory of someone special who had a love of life, but has sadly passed on. Other people shared ducks that had a beautiful message for Autism awareness or another worthy cause.

Customized Cruising Duck Tags: Carnival Cruise Valentines Day Tags

I recently saw this idea posted in a Cruising Duck Facebook Group. This fun duck themed ribbon is great for tying duck tags or passports on to your cruise duck. You may want to personalize your cruising duck with your own cruise duck tags, passports or stickers. The act of hiding and finding cruise ducks has become more than a simple game.

Customized Cruising Duck Tags: Carnival Cruise Tags

Cruise Duck Tags are the second most important item needed in the cruise ducking game. On a couple of my recent sailings, I won some inexpensive mini-ducks by playing a claw game in the arcade, and I used spare hair ties to attach my business card to them. Hiding them also kept the young daughter of one of my travel companions busy for an afternoon. Take a photo of yourself with the duck you've found and post it to the "Cruising Ducks - Original" Facebook group. You might also choose to reach out to thank them if they have provided contact information on the card attached to the duck.

How do you participate in cruising duck activities?

For those looking to celebrate Halloween on a cruise, themed ducks can be found sporting various spooky disguises. Etsy is no longer supporting older versions of your web browser in order to ensure that user data remains secure. We have a NEW option to register your cruise duck AND track it, for FREE!

Custom Wood Cruise Ducks with Sunglasses - pack of 25 Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Norweigen

If you are new, definitely go for a “starter set” with say 20 ducks. If you find you enjoy it, then look at something more sophisticated for your next cruise. These ducks typically have cards attached to them (or “tags” as they are known) containing the names of the people who hid them and where those people came from. Cruisers who’ve found ducks onboard cruises post their photos as well. Some cute ducks I’ve seen include sports themed ducks like hockey or baseball, holiday ducks for both Christmas and Halloween, Princess ducks, and more.

It might sound silly, but there are rules for hiding rubber ducks on cruises. The first is that you should never put it in a pool or hot tub. You wouldn't want an excited child or inebriated passenger to fall in and drown or hurt themselves while attempting to fetch it.

Many more ideas are posted with Cruising Duck Facebook communities, so definitely check the out. Some crew say they bring a couple home to their children when they finish their contract. Since that time, they started the Facebook group, Cruising Ducks – Original Group, which now has over 180,000 members. According to Abby’s dad Ashley, they never thought the group would get this big and that this “kindness project” would catch on as it has. Abby’s adventure, however, seems to have kicked things into high gear and started a movement, the main purpose of which is simply to make other people smile. It's a huge no-no to toss anything into the ocean, even by accident.

Make sure you’re not causing any damage or leaving any mess behind, and don’t hide ducks in areas that could be a safety hazard. It’s also a good idea to check with the cruise ship staff to make sure they don’t have any specific rules or regulations about hiding objects on the ship. Playing the cruising duck game is a fun way to pass the time on a cruise ship, and it’s a great way to meet other passengers who are also looking for ducks. Some people even organize duck-hunting events, where everyone meets up and tries to find as many ducks as possible.

Natali, a first time participant, kindly shared the story of her special ducks (seen above). One thing that I noticed, and that frankly surprised me as I researched this trendy activity, is that many people shared ducks that had an extra special meaning. Some people create their own ducks by knitting or crocheting them, while others have been creating home made keychains.

If you find a duck, you can either keep it or re-hide it for someone else to find. Be sure to follow any rules or guidelines provided, and remember to avoid hiding ducks in areas like pools, hot tubs, or stores. Cruising Ducks is a fun trend for cruise passengers that’s becoming more popular with every year! Whether you’re cruising on Carnival, Disney, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian or another cruise line, you’ll likely find some cruise ducks onboard. While hiding cruise ducks is most well known on Carnival cruises, you’re likely to find cruising ducks on Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Disney and other popular cruise lines. Of course, it’s important to be respectful of the ship and other passengers while playing the game.

You're hiding 20 ducks around the ship - this duck is 1 of 20. Each tag has a perforated hole that can be put around the duck's neck. On many a cruise, rubber ducks can be found peeking out from random hiding places, beckoning passengers to pick them up and read their accompanying information tags.

Cruise Radio prioritizes well-balanced cruise news coverage and accurate reporting, paired with ship reviews and tips. Hiding your little rubber friends can be an enjoyable challenge and an engaging game of hide-and-seek for passengers. Of course, as we all know, every party has that notorious pooper. Perhaps not surprisingly, given how big the whole cruising duck phenomenon has become, this particular party has attracted several varieties of complainers on Facebook.

Popular Frankie Ford Lyrics

Old Time Music is proud to have such a passionate and talented team of writers who share their love for music with our readers. We hope you enjoy the articles and insights they bring to our platform. Decades later, “Sea Cruise” continues to be a crowd-pleaser at parties, weddings, and playlists of all ages. Yet, what sets this 1960s hit aside from similar bubblegum tunes is its underlying message.

Sea Cruise lyrics

These covers attest to the enduring popularity of the original version. "Sea Cruise" is a song written and originally recorded by Huey "Piano" Smith and His Clowns in 1959. Bryan explains what the song is really about, and shares more of his songwriting insights.

Watch: New Singing Lesson Videos Can Make Anyone A Great Singer

It serves as a reminder that dancing and enjoying oneself is a universal activity that knows no boundaries. The instrumental interlude provides a moment of respite before the song picks up again. It allows the listener to appreciate the infectious rhythm and the beat that drives the entire song forward. The repetition of the phrase “Oo-ee, oo-ee baby” adds a playful and charming tone to the song.

It’s a song that I’ve enjoyed with my loved ones, creating memories of dancing and singing together. From road trips with my family to impromptu dance parties with friends, “Sea Cruise” has always managed to bring a smile to our faces and create a sense of joy and togetherness. The second verse emphasizes the singer’s desire to get moving and rock the night away. The lyrics, “I got to get t’rockin’ get my hat off the rack, I got to boogie woogie like a knife in the back,” paint a picture of someone who is ready to let loose and dance with abandon. This song is not just an invitation to dance, but also a plea for someone to join the singer. The lines “Feel like jumpin’ baby won’t ya join me please, I don’t like beggin’ but I’m on bended knee” suggest a yearning for companionship and shared enjoyment.

It was a time when the battle against segregation and discrimination was at its peak. Smith’s lyrics subtly reference the inequality that African Americans had to endure during this period. “Sea Cruise” is a seemingly simple song about a young couple heading out on a boat trip. But the language and imagery Smith used have a much deeper meaning that speaks to the early beginnings of the civil rights movement in the United States. The repetition of the chorus in the final verses reasserts the song’s invitation to let go and join in the fun.

sea cruise lyrics

The Impact of “Sea Cruise”

The opening lines, “Old man rhythm is in my shoes, no use t’sittin’ and a’singin’ the blues,” urge us to let go of our worries and embrace the joy that music can bring. We are invited to be the guest of the singer and embark on a sea cruise together. As a fan of oldies music, “Sea Cruise” holds a special place in my heart.

The instrumental opening lays the foundation for what’s to come, setting the scene for a delightful journey that awaits. Kesha's 2017 track "Woman" was the first song titled "Woman" sung by a woman to reach the Hot 100. The prior "Woman" singles to reach the chart were all recorded by male acts. Additionally, it’s worth mentioning that “Sea Cruise” has been covered by various artists throughout the years, including Johnny Hallyday’s “La croisière des souvenirs” and Giorgio Gaber’s rendition of the song.

The lyrics create anticipation for the adventure that’s about to unfold. It’s an exhilarating moment that the young couple is about to experience. In the early 1960s, the United States was smacked right in the middle of a civil rights movement.
